Thanks Craig! You're absolutely right that models are indeed just models and not perfect predictors of the future. Although, I will say that the climate models used by the IPCC have been pretty accurate so far, but which Representative Concentration Pathway (RCP) we follow is still entirely within our control. In fact, we already are likely to avoid the worst of those scenarios (RCP8.5) based on current emission trends and government policies. So it is also true that we should not assume current trends will simply continue like further increases in coal production as RCP8.5 includes. I believe our society can shift drastically with enough momentum behind it from people demanding climate action; movements of the past like the civil rights movement show that it is entirely feasible. Of course, climate change is a much larger and more complex problem that affects much of how our current society functions, but it is still a solvable problem. We may not end up building a utopia (and I don't believe in such things anyways) but we can certainly build something better than we currently have.
